DFW Employers Collaborated to Create Standardized Care and Improved Quality for Low Back Pain

Program found employers could improve quality and save money by working with providers to
define and agree on course of care, measure progress and share results data

Increasing Healthcare costs is a pain in the back. Over the last two years, corporations in the DFW Business Group on Health came together and are taking action. Working with other stakeholders, like Aetna, BCBS TX and Cigna, they built a database and evaluated the care pathway for low back pain in North Texas. In collaboration with leading medical groups in North Texas, they brought supply chain tools and resources to the groups supporting increased consistency and reduced variation in the treatment of low back pain. The collaboration between employers and providers led to a greater appreciation and understanding of the power of working together. In addition, the groups are gradually moving ahead of other groups in providing high value care to employees and their families. In this short video, Dr. Conard reviews the progress.
